Les versions de Ruby antérieures à 1.8.7-p357 sont vulnérables à une attaque par déni de service permettant à un utilisateur distant non authentifié de faire planter ou de figer le serveur. En envoyant des données spécifiquement conçues pour provoquer des collisions de hachage délibérées, un attaquant peut forcer l'utilisation du processeur à atteindre 100 %, rendant l'application unresponsive. Cette attaque est relativement facile à exécuter car elle ne nécessite qu'un accès réseau, sans privilèges particuliers ni interaction de l'utilisateur.

Ruby (aka CRuby) before 1.8.7-p357 computes hash values without restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via crafted input to an application that maintains a hash table.
